For a small taste of this great
series,

This show comes on CD In MP3 Format
This great series starred Eve Arden as Connie Brooks, a very engaging but
harried English teacher, a role for which she won an Emmy. Our Miss Brooks
first aired on CBS on July 19, 1948. The original Mr. Conklin was played by
Joe Forte, however, after two episodes he was replaced by the incomparable
Gale Gordon. Other regular cast members were Jeff Chandler as Philip
Boynton, Dick Crenna (later known as Richard) as Walter Denton, Leonard
Smith as Stretch Snodgrass, Jane Morgan as Mrs. Davis and Gloria McMillan as
Harriet Conklin.
Our Miss Brooks soon became one of CBS's most popular comedies, running for
nine consecutive years both on radio and later on TV and radio
simultaneously. The series is an American radio comedy classic, and as such
deserves to be preserved, listened to and enjoyed over and over by not only
those of us who remember it, but those who are introduced to it for the
first time now.
The main cast of characters for the show:
Connie Brooks (Eve Arden), an English teacher at fictional Madison High
School.
Osgood Conklin (Gale Gordon), blustery, gruff, crooked, and unsympathetic
Madison High principal, a near-constant pain to his faculty and students.
Occasionally Conklin would rig competitions at the school--such as that for
prom queen--so that his daughter Harriet would win. (Harriet, a sometime
love interest for Walter Denton, was herself honest and guileless with none
of her father's malevolence and dishonesty.)
Walter Denton (Richard Crenna), a Madison High student, well-intentioned and
clumsy, with a nasally high, cracking voice, often driving Miss Brooks (his
self-professed favorite teacher) to school in a broken-down jalopy. (Miss
Brooks' references to her own usually-in-the-shop car became one of the
show's running gags.)
Philip Boynton (Jeff Chandler), Madison High biology teacher, the shy and
often clueless object of Miss Brooks' affections.
Margaret Davis (Jane Morgan), Miss Brooks' absentminded landlady, whose two
trademarks are a cat named Minerva and a penchant for whipping up exotic and
often uneatable breakfasts.
Harriet Conklin (Gloria McMillan), Madison High student and daughter of
principal Conklin, as well as Denton's girlfriend.
Stretch Snodgrass (Leonard Smith), dull-witted Madison High athletic star
and Walter's best friend.
Miss Enright (Mary Jane Croft), Madison High English teacher, and a scheming
professional and romantic rival to Miss Brooks.
Jacques Monet (Gerald Mohr), a French teacher.
There are over 110 episodes
