Westerns
Gunsmoke
- Gunsmoke was one of the long lived, classic Old Time Radio shows that most
folks know or at least recognize. If you're old enough, you most likely
remember it from radio. If you're a bit younger then us, then you probably
know the show from its move to early TV where it ran for about 20 years. If
you enjoyed Gunsmoke on TV, you will love the early radio episodes. It isn't
often we get to see, or in this case hear, where some of our most beloved TV
shows originated. Get over 400 episodes, 200 plus
hours of listening enjoyment.
Hopalong Cassidy,
the radio version of with Andy Clyde as the sidekick,
began broadcasting on The Mutual Broadcasting System in January of 1950. At
the end of September, the show moved to CBS Radio, where it ran until 1952.
The popularity of the show grew every time it was heard. The radio show,
along with his movies and television shows helped Hopalong Cassidy become one of
the most popular heroes of the West. Hopalong’s popularity continues to grow
even today as new generations and of course, us older folks, delight in the
classic tale of this great American hero. So sit back and enjoy one of the most popular
characters of the Old West in over 100 episodes and 43 plus hours of great
Hopalong Cassidy adventures!
The Roy Rogers Show
- I grew up watching the Roy Rogers show on TV. There once was a photo of
me, about age 2, sitting in front of our first TV, and on the screen could
be seen Roy and Trigger. Now that I'm a bit older, I've come to enjoy the
classic Roy Rogers radio shows. I'm sure you'll enjoy them also. There are over 75 episodes
and better then 38 hours of wonderful western action and entertainment contained on the CD.
Wild Bill Hickock
- Guy Madison starred as Wild Bill Hickock. His sidekick "Jingles," was
played by Andy Devine, who was fantastic in the role. What were Wild Bill
and Andy looking for as they rode through the west? Why for adventure, of
course, and they certainly found it. 228 Episodes are included in this 2 CD set. Over
100 hours of great western adventures with Wild Bill and Jingles!
Have Gun Will Travel
- the radio show ran on CBS from November 23,
1958 to November 22, 1960. It was one of the last radio dramas
featuring continuing characters. John Dehner played Paladin and Ben
Wright usually (but not always) played Hey Boy.
The show followed the adventures of Paladin, a
gentleman-turned-gunfighter (played by Richard Boone on television,
and by John Dehner on radio), who preferred to settle problems
without violence, yet, when forced to fight, excelled. So join Paladin and his cohorts for over 40
hours and 100+ episodes in The Have Gun Will Travel Radio show.
Tales of the Texas Rangers
- a great western adventure, the old-time radio
drama, starred Joel McCrea was Texas
Ranger, Jayce Pearson. He used the latest scientific techniques to
identify the criminals and his faithful horse, Charcoal, to track
them down. The shows were reenactments of actual Texas Ranger cases.
The series was produced and directed by Stacy Keach, Sr., and was
sponsored for part of its run by Wheaties. The radio series used contemporary cases and
modern detective methods to solve crimes. It was a procedural drama,
in many ways Dragnet with a Western flavor. So take a trip back
to the Old West and enjoy over 45 hours and over 90 episodes of
Texas Ranger adventures.
The program
originated in the 1940s and was called
The Adventures of Lightning
Jim. It was a West Coast program. The program returned as a
syndicated series in the 1950s. Lightning Jim is
the story of U.S. Marshal Lightning Jim Whipple, his horse Thunder,
and his deputy, Whitey Larson. The shows portray
Native
Americans, the history of the Union-Pacific Railroad, and the West.
There
are over 40 episodes and better then 20 hours of the old west and
all it’s history, so sit back and enjoy the adventures of U.S.
Marshall Jim, his trusty horse, Thunder and his deputy, Whitey.
